How to Join and Membership Information

The club offers young people the opportunity to learn to swim, compete in competitions across the South West, or swim for fitness.

For swimmers who have completed Stages 1 – 7 of the NPTS there are two possible routes to take within the Club:

 Fast Track/Fitness lane    or      Stroke Development Squad (then onto Potential Squad and then Senior Squad)

                                                                        

Membership costs, fees and information 2008  

Bridgwater Amateur Swimming Club (BASC) is a non- profit making organisation and fees are kept to the minimum requirement to meet essential expenses. 

 

Enrolment

Initial enrolment is done through the Membership Secretary.  Once enrolled, all swimmers are automatically re-enrolled from year to year.  It is the member’s responsibility to inform the Membership Secretary if a place is no longer required, failure to do so may result in fees being charged.

Membership

Membership runs from 1st January to 31st December each year and is payable in January.  New Members are required to pay membership fees on the date they  start swimming with the Club. 

All swimmers are required to be full members and at least one Parent/Guardian of children under the age of 16 are requested to be an associate member of BASC.   Membership rates are agreed at the Annual General Meeting (AGM), held in October/November of each year prior to the January in which they become due and payable.

Category 1 swimmer                     £17.00 per annum

Learn to Swim – no competitions  

Category 2 swimmer                     £20.00 per annum

Competitive swimmers – including Speedo & Cotswold Galas  

Associate Member                       £7.00 per annum

 

Swimming Fees - Fees for 2008 are payable by 12 equal monthly instalments from January to December. 

Fees are agreed by the Committee and are reviewed annually.  However, should the need arise during any one year, they will be reviewed and implemented only by the Committee giving one month’s notice.  

Payment of fees are by standing order monthly  on the 1st day of each month.  Responsibility for ensuring payment lies both with BASC and the Parent (Payee).

 1 swim per week                          £10.00 monthly    (£120 per annum)

(Learn to swim) 

2 swims per week (max)                   £16.00 monthly    (£192 per annum)

(Learn to swim)

Stroke Development/Potential Squads     £19.00 monthly    (£228 per annum)

Up to 3 swims per week 

 

Potential/Senior Squads                   £22.00 monthly    (£264 per annum)

5 swims available per week

Fees are determined first by the Squad your child is in e.g. Senior squad swimmers annual fee is £264 regardless of the number of times they swim per week.

 

Non Local Resident Fee       £30.00

This is available to Squad level swimmers who are not currently resident locally due to Work Commitments, University etc. in order that swimmers can continue with training when home visiting relatives or on leave.  (Approximately 20 swims per year).  This rate can apply to visiting members of other clubs who regularly holiday in this area who wish to continue their training programme.  It is a requirement that the swimmer and parent, if appropriate, are members of BASC in order that the Code of Conduct of our club applies.  It is at the discretion of the head coach as to the appropriate training lane for such swimmers.

Squad Level Swimmers wishing to swim on an occasional basis may, following the agreement of the Head Coach become a member of the Club and swim under the "Pay as You Go" scheme.  Vouchers can be purchased in blocks of 5 and 10 at a cost of £3.50 per voucher.

Absences

After an absence of 4 weeks, it will be assumed that a place is no longer required and it will be offered to those on the waiting list.  Please inform the Membership Secretary if you will be away for a period of time and wish your place to be held. 

Medical Conditions

It is the responsibility of the parent/guardian to inform both the Swimming Teacher and the Membership Secretary of any medical conditions, which may affect their children and their participation in BASC activities.  Further information and formalities may need to be completed. 

Insurance

Insurance arrangements are covered under the Amateur Swimming Association to whom BASC are affiliated.

 

Child Protection – Photography/Video Recording

We request that no still or moving photographs be taken during swimming sessions and galas.  If you would like to take still or moving photographs of your child during swimming sessions then permission should be sought from the Club Welfare Officer and you will be asked to sign a book for this purpose. 

Video recording may be used as a training aid by BASC coaches but only after written consent has been received from parents/guardians.  Exceptions may be made for Special Events – you will be informed of these.
