Notice Board
Youth
Squad Changes
Unfortunately, and due to
unforeseen circumstances, the arrangements for cover of
Tuesday’s Youth Squad sessions at Quantock Lodge have fallen
through. We have been unable to find another level 2
qualified teacher or coach at short notice and so this
session will have to be cancelled due to the lack of
qualified volunteers.
To ensure the Squad gets
their pool time a session has been made available on Sundays
at Kings College in Taunton. The swimming club’s Head
Coach, Mark Rawle, who is a qualified level 3 coach will
take the session which will run from 6pm-7pm as of 21st
November 2010.
Friday sessions at Quantock
Lodge will remain in place.

Congratulations to -
Anna Tribe
Bethan Austin,
Chloe Howe,
Luke Topazio
Who attended the Club Championships over
Oct half term and ALL achieved Club Best Times! Well done guys!
The presentation evening is on the 29th
January where you will receive your trophies and medals and there is a
great excuse to dress up and party afterwards! Hope to see the
rest of the squad there to congratulate you too.

On another note ... as you know Zoe will be
leaving before Christmas. Don't panic! Charlie will be continuing
the sterling work she already does as well as being helped by some new
coaches who we will introduce in the coming weeks. If you would
like to speak to Zoe after a session please feel free to do so. |
Club Nights & Competitions
Club Nights are held on
a regular basis so that swimmers, parents and coaches can
mix with other squads within the club. It is a great
way to see the others in action and a one side of our
fundraising and social activities.
We encourage all swimmers to
enter Club Championships - this is our yearly club
event, the races are for Bridgwater Club swimmers only and
are a friendly introduction to galas and a great chance to
meet members of other squads. Usually held in July (longer
distance) and October (shorter distance). Look out
these and other upcoming Open Meets on
our
Competitions Calendar.
We do several
timed swims each term as this helps your coach in planning
your programme. If you need entry times or would like
to try a specific event let your coach know and we can do
this for you. |

Goal Setting
Each term we have Squad goals and personal
goals that we set and work towards. You and your coach will talk
about and make these together.
When setting goals - Take the time to
really think about what you want to achieve and where you want to be in,
say, a year's time?
-
Be specific -
instead of 'improve BC' say 'work on BC arms to get a
stronger faster pull'
-
Measure - how will you know
you've got there? stroke
count on 40m BC
-
How long will it take?
By the end of this term
-
Be realistic - don't make
it too easy or too hard. You don't need to climb the
whole ladder all at once!
Personal goals - your coach will often make
goals based on technique but goals aren't just based on your swimming.
For example -
Take time to read the set, do
stretches without being asked, focus and concentration,
behaviour, dive whenever possible, take own heart rate, lead
my lane, watch and copy demonstrations, bring equipment, ask
questions, focus on my turns, challenge myself, speak to the
other people in my lane, streamlining, increase distance, be
confident in myself, use the clock to time rest,

Equipment: The
Essentials!
-
HAT -
If you have long hair you MUST wear a hat or have it
tied up. Very long hair can get in the way when
you breathe. A hat also reduces water resistance
and makes you go faster!
-
WATER
BOTTLE - you will get very dehydrated while training
and to keep fit and healthy you must put these fluids
back into your body.
-
GOGGLES
- will protect your eyes and make it easier for you to
see what you do underwater so you can learn faster.
Other
Equipment:
Useful extras
that will be used in lessons/training sessions.
-
FINS
(flippers) - Fins increase ankle flexibility, work leg
muscles, add speed & power, allow us to concentrate on
technique in Fly. We recommend all swimmers in the
Youth squad to have these.
-
Kick
board - Have your very own kickboard! These
are stronger than the small floats used in the learn to
swim programme and are used regularly.
-
Hand/Finger
paddles - These are great for working on sculling
which is the basis of all our strokes, learn to feel the
water and correct hand position.
