Learn to Swim
When your child first enters the club, they will be assessed on the National Plan for Teaching Swimming, which ranges from Stages 1 to 7. IMPORTANT - Letter to Parents - New NPTS Programme begins January 2008 Click here for more information
Open events: Children aged 9 and over who have passed Stage 5 National Plan for Teaching Swimming can enter Open events. Open events give you the opportunity to have a go at swimming in a gala. Swimmers enter as individuals in the events of their choice and make their own way to the event. Entry forms and details for events are available a couple of months before each event. Please ask if you are unsure. Club Championships: Short and long distances championships are run each year. All Club swimmers can enter. There are races for all abilities; width swimmers, those that can swim 1 length and those that can swim 50m and over. Stage 8: Once a swimmer reaches Stage 8 they should already be taking part in local open meets where their times will be recorded (Parents should try to keep a record of a childs times). Following Stage 8, swimmers will move on to the Stroke Development Squad and then the Potential Squad and then onto the Senior Squad. Those swimmers not progressing to Squad may swim in the Fast Track/Fitness lane on a Friday night 7.30 8.15 pm (Female 16/Under and Male 17/Under) or 8.15 -9.30 pm (Female 17/Over and Male 18/Over). |
