Bridgwater Swimming Club - 2008 COTSWOLD LEAGUE CHAMPIONS!
What an evening, my nerves still
haven't settled! At the penultimate score announcement we were 2 points in the
lead. From there on it was nip and tuck between Bristol Henleaze and Bridgwater,
they beat us, but by how many places?, we beat them, but by how many places?
By the end of the gala my head was in a
total spin and I didn't have a clue who had won. Neither did anyone else for
that matter. Mark was desperate for the loo but wouldn't leave poolside until
the result was announced (don't worry Mark, we cleaned up for you!).
Surprisingly enough, the biggest cheer
came when second place was announced (I believe the workmen are replacing the
tiles on the roof today!), not only were Bristol Henleaze cheering
but the Bridgwater Swimmers, Coaches, Teachers, Parents, and yes, I have to
admit, even me, just exploded when we realised, in the words of 'Queen', WE
ARE THE CHAMPIONS!
I was so impressed with the enthusiasm
and professionalism shown by all members of the club (I'm still deaf in my left
ear from the verbal support of the Cheerleaders!). The parents and families
were also very vocal throughout the Gala, we were certainly the best supported
club and they all looked stunning in their uniforms!
Every swimmer swam their heart out,
regardless of their final position in their race. The swimmers that came 7th
and 8th in their races were the most important of all; I believe we won the
gala by six points so without your valuable points, it could have been a
different story. I suppose you could say you won the gala for us
so give yourselves a big pat on the back! I have a feeling there are going
to be one or two dramatic P.B.'s from last night!
Finally, a big thank you to Mark, the
coaches and teachers who give up their time unselfishly, the parents and
helpers, without all these people there wouldn't be a club, but most of all
thank you to the swimmers for your hard work and dedication. You did us proud!
