Bridgwater Swimmers Hold on to Title

Bridgwater Swimming Club celebrated this weekend as they held on to their title as winners of the Cotswolds League for the second successive year.

With eight teams competing in the final at Hutton Moore Leisure Centre in Weston-Super-Mare, tension was high and while the Bridgwater team was confident, there was no complacency.

Although Bridgwater lead the points from the start, victory was by no means a forgone conclusion with Circencester in particular proving to be formidable opponents.

But Bridgwater swimmers were not to be intimidated and produced some amazing swims, including 21 first places, 39 top three finishes and 27 personal best times.

There were some nail biting moments when Bridgwater swimmers’ fought their way from behind to snatch the win sometimes by just tenths of a second.  But this determination paid off, giving the team a convincing win, 26 points ahead of nearest rivals Cirencester.

Head Coach Mark Rawle was delighted with his team’s success.  He said:

“This is a fantastic result and well deserved.  The team have worked really hard for this and we’re delighted to have won the A Final for the second year running.”

But he said they were now looking towards next year’s National Swimming League.

“Having won promotion to Division Two the team has gone up a level and we’ve got to work hard to cement our position. But the swimmers are going from strength to strength and I have no doubt everyone will want to work to continue the success.”

Club Chairwoman, Karen Gibbs was equally delighted with the Club’s continuing success and congratulated the team, saying:

“The swimmers have done really well.  They’ve worked really hard and shown tremendous commitment to the Club over the past year and it’s paid off as they’ve retained their crown in this year’s final.”

With the fresh challenge of the National Swimming League starting later this year, the Club is now looking for sponsors for kit for the team and would be delighted to hear from any company interested in becoming part of their continuing success.

The Club is also always looking for new members and if you are interested in joining, then please visit the website at www.bridgwaterswim.co.uk.
