Eighteen Personal Bests for Bridgwater
swimmers
BRIDGWATER Amateur
Swimming Club hosted a tough second-round gala of the Cotswold Series at Cheddar
last month.
They finished third
with 126 points, ahead of Wellington (110), but behind Cheltenham (138) and
Cinderford (142).
This was a strong
performance by Bridgwater, against some of the top teams in the series. Despite
missing some swimmers, they won 15 out of the 52 races.
Eighteen
Personal-Best times were recorded, only three fewer than during their 47-point
victory in the first round of the series.
Furthermore,
Bridgwater showed their strong team spirit throughout. The whole club remained
on poolside until after the final race to support their team-mates and cheer the
announcement of the results.
In their second
month under new head coach Mark Rawle, the swimmers have been training hard and
striving to improve. This strong work ethic has been shown in particular by
Tom Bryan, aged nine and Samantha Young, 11, who were named Swimmers of the
Month.
Tom is in the
Stroke Development Squad and was rewarded for his attitude at training and
improving his skill level. Sam has just moved up to the Potential Squad and her
strong desire to learn and apply this in training has led to continued
improvement.
The club now faces
a busy month of competitions. A number of members are competing in the Somerset
Age-Groups and Championships over the next few weeks. In addition, the next
round of the Cotswold Series took place at Keynsham on March 1. Results to
follow soon.
