Becky GBR 9612 rounds the mark in 1st position

Becky  and Jack Plummer competed in the Junior Windsurfing World Championships in Sopot Poland.

Both are pupils at East Bridgwater Community School and members of Bridgwater Swimming club and Durleigh Sailing Club.

Becky competed in a very strong under 17's class in a field of 37 other competitors and was hoping to better last year’s position of 17th.

She had an event of mixed fortunes struggling in some of the very strong winds, but working to her strength in lighter winds and recording a first place in race 7.  After a shaky start on the first day Becky managed to pull up through the field to finish in 8th place at the end of the event.

Jack also competed in a very strong field of approximately 40 under 15 year olds in his first world championships.  Despite the daunting vision of all the other sailors on the line Jack took the event in his stride and at the end of day 4 he was in gold medal position.

However a couple of bad races on day 5 in lighter winds took him into 2nd position behind a French sailor.

Despite post tornado winds on the final day Jack managed to hold on to his 2nd position to bring back the silver medal.
