National Plan for
Teaching Swimming
Stages 1 – 7 - (Learn
to Swim)
·
Each stage
takes the form of a course which runs for approximately 12 weeks (a school
term)
·
Each swimmer
should attend at least 9 out of 12 lessons to complete the course
·
There will be
no final assessment day. The swimmers will be continually assessed and progress
onto the next level at the end of the 12 weeks, providing they have reached the
standard required by the National Teaching Plan.
The main aim of
the National Plan for Teaching Swimming (NPTS) is to develop
a wide range of skills. The content of the NPTS prepares swimmers to
participate in a variety of different disciplines and in so doing develops
a more rounded and more skilful performer. This will increase the range of
opportunities open to the swimmer in terms of future development whilst at
the same time provides a sound skill basis for those wishing to progress
to the competitive aspect of the sport.
